Frequently asked questions

What technique is used for customization?

The pieces are customized using the ceramic decal transfer technique.

The design, logo or text is printed on a specific paper, then applied by hand to each piece before a third high-temperature firing in a ceramicist kiln. This firing permanently fixes the motif into the enamel of the porcelain or earthenware for a resistant and refined result.

What colors can be used with decalcomania?

You can send us Pantone color references, except platinum, silver, gold and magenta.

Depending on the ceramic and firing chosen for customization, colors may vary.

Why do you use decalcomania to customize tableware?

Each piece is unique, with its own irregularities and charm. Decalcomania is the only technique that allows these pieces to be customized one by one: logo, sweet note, illustration... anything is possible.

Screen printing is reserved for industrial production. It requires precise calibration for an identical product series, which is incompatible with our selection of second-hand tableware, always different.

What is the difference between decalcomania and screen printing?

Decalcomania (or ceramic transfer)

It is a technique that consists of printing a motif (often in four-color process) on special paper, then transferring it manually onto porcelain. Once applied, the object is fired again at low temperature (third firing) to fix the motif into the enamel.

Screen printing on porcelain

It consists of passing ceramic ink through a screen (stencil) directly onto porcelain. Each color is applied separately, requiring one pass per color.

At KFH La Maison, we use decalcomania because it is perfect for customizing unique pieces, such as vintage cups or plates, with a logo or message while preserving their antique charm.

In what format should I send the logo, text or motif?

We need your logo, text or motif as a vector file.

Recommended formats:

  • AI (Adobe Illustrator)
  • EPS
  • SVG
  • PDF (check that text is converted to outlines)
What is the lead time for customization?

It depends on the quantities required. We define your project together, respond case by case and give you our best lead times.

Allow 4 to 6 weeks depending on your request.

Is there a minimum order for customization?

Yes, customization is available from a minimum of 12 pieces.

Each customization goes through a third kiln firing. Depending on the ceramic composition, some pieces may show slight defects or may not withstand this step. A small loss is always possible; it is part of artisanal work.

Please note: customized pieces cannot be exchanged or refunded, as they are made to measure just for you.

Do you have a price list for customization?

Each customization project is studied individually.

Prices vary according to quantities, support, visual and chosen technique.

For this reason, we work only by quote so we can offer a solution adapted as closely as possible to your project.
